Khan has been the subject of several controversies, including certain legal troubles.

Hit-and-run case

On 28 September 2002, Khan was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had run into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped.On 24 July 2013, he was formally charged with culpable homicide in the case, to which he pleaded not guilty. The trial is scheduled to begin on 19 August.

Black Buck hunting case

On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara, an endangered species. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal. On 10 April 2006, he was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail.On 24 July 2012, Rajasthan High Court finalised charges against Salman Khan and his other colleagues in the endangered black buck killing case, paving way for start of the trial.

Relationship with Aishwarya Rai

Four years later in March 2002, their passionate affair ended.

Salman’s drunk antic outside Ash’s flat

Aishwarya Rai’s parents had lodged a police complaint against an intoxicated Salman, who allegedly broke windowpanes and furniture in Ash’s home. Ash had to take the protection of both the police and private security guards. They used to accompany her during her shoots.  This was the last nail in the coffin of Ash-Salman relationship. The actress moved away from Salman and found love in Vivek Oberoi who famously gave her 30 gifts on her 30th birthday.

2003
The Vivek Oberoi Episode

Vivek Oberoi called for the famous press conference in which he had accused Salman Khan of 41 threat calls because the latter was still in love with Aishwarya Rai at that time. His controversial press conference made him a national villain and he became an outcast in the industry overnight. His career came to a standstill and he also lost a lot friends. Vivek also acknowledged in a TV interview that he was seeing Ash, and admitted that marriage was a possibility between them. This allegedly angered Ash who had strictly avoided talking about her personal life in media.

2005

While Salman Khan had moved onto seeing Katrina Kaif, reports of Ash-Vivek break up surfaced
in November 2005 and within weeks it was confirmed that the couple had split. In 2005, the police also reported a 2001 mobile phone call record where Salman allegedly threatened Ash to appear at a social event held by a Mumbai underworld don. Eventually the tape was deemed fake.

2007-2010

Aishwarya Rai bagged the “Bachchan Bahu” title by tying the knot with Abhishek Bachchan, whom she dated for 2 years post break-up with Vivek. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaifended their 5 year long relationship in 2010.

 

 

 

At Present

While Salman Khan is still one of the most sought-after bachelors in Bollywood (even 10 years post break-up with Ash), Aishwarya Rai is mother to the most famous baby of Bollywood, Aaradhya Bachchan. ThoughSalman Khan has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in several films together, Ash and Salman are still not on talking terms and have not worked with each other since their last film “Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam”, which released in 2002.Salman Khan is also very cordial withAbhishek Bachchan.

Despite some high drama in high places, we are glad that both Salman and Ash are doing well, in their own way. Although Salman-Ash fans were heart-broken with the break-up news, all we can say is – sometimes, some love stories are just not meant to be!
